What is PTC Heating in EV Battery Thermal Management
PTC heating relies on the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) characteristics of semiconductor ceramics and serves as a core component for the low-temperature preheating of electric commercial vehicle batteries. While it offers advantages such as self-limiting temperature control, safety, vibration resistance, and uniform heating, it also has limitations—including power consumption that reduces winter driving range, higher costs, and a fixed constant-temperature range. TKT’s integrated battery thermal management system (BTMS) addresses these shortcomings. By combining PTC heating with a liquid cooling circuit and the Battery Management System (BMS), the system maintains the battery within the optimal operating range of 25–40°C, thereby inhibiting lithium plating, protecting battery cells, and ensuring stable all-weather operation for commercial vehicles. TKT’s BTMS features an integrated liquid cooling and PTC architecture that delivers high-precision temperature control, a lightweight design, and robust protection capabilities. Supporting customized development, the system has served numerous global automakers, providing integrated heating and cooling thermal management solutions for heavy-duty electric commercial vehicles.
